Baltimore Venture Mentors

Portfolio Company Selection
Due to heavy demand, becoming a Baltimore Venture Mentor presenting company is a highly selective process. The following procedures were established to ensure that the selection process is equitable and efficient.

1. Submit preliminary interest form on website
2. Receive confirmation email and templates including one page executive summary and SWOT form
3. Complete template and email to Venture Mentor Partner
4. Set up interview with Screening Committee
5. Candidate information will be scored by Screening Committee
6 If score met the minimum standard, candidate will be assigned a Mentor
7 If score was low, candidate will receive some feedback on evaluation. Candidates can revise their business opportunity and submit again for a "Second Chance". Candidates can only submit twice and second result is final.
8 Mentor will work with candidate (now a Portfolio Company) to help them prepare for their full BVM Board presentation which should occur within 30 days of acceptance.

Meeting Methodology and Protocols
1. Each new Portfolio Company (PC) has 40 minutes with the full Board.
2. The first 20 allows for the PC to give a presentation (no questions from the Panel during the presentation).
3. Question & Answer Session - 20 minutes long
4. Board will provide assigned Mentor and PC their thoughts regarding tasks, strategies and milestones for the PC.

Post-Meeting Feedback and Process
1. Within (30 ) business days the Mentor and PC will jointly build a reasonable and agreed upon set of metrics for the PC to chart progress.
2. The Portfolio Company will execute on the road map established by the Board and Mentor. The lead Mentor will systematically refer the PC to various mentors for specific expertise (channel sales, licensing, product development, revenue forecasting, intellectual property, etc)
3. PC will track the meetings with and recommendations made by BVM Board members. A copy will be forwarded to PC's Mentor for accountability and BVM
Executive Board for review.
4. If Mentor feels that PC is not following advice or in some other manner, not effectively cooperating with the Mentoring process and therefore not going to reach their agreed upon milestones, PC will be put on notice (terminated).
5. PC gets "Second Chance" to come back to the correct path. Mentor will evaluate new progress and determine if PC has gotten back on track.
6. PC should be able to complete milestones within 6 months to become a BVM Graduate.
